Iason Chalmoukis was born in Athens in 1988. He graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Patras, Greece in 2011, writing a thesis entitled “Numerical study on the effect of north and northwest waves to the harbor of the New Port of Patras”. He continued his postgraduate studies in TUDelft, Netherlands acquiring a M.Sc. degree in Hydraulic Engineering in 2013 with specialization in Coastal Engineering. The Master thesis was conducted at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Barcelona and its subject was ‘Probabilistic coastal vulnerability assessment to storms at regional scale’. The application area was the coast at North-East Aegean Sea (Thrakiko Pelagos), Greece. During 2014, he worked as a consultant in D. Sotiropoulos & Associates S.A., for flood preventing projects. In September 2014, he joined the SEDITRANS project as a Ph.D. candidate of University of Patras, working on the development of a code for large eddy simulations of free-surface flows using the immersed boundary (IB) method and focusing to the extension of the IB method in order to simulate sediment transport induced by waves. Finally, he will validate the numerical code against experimental measurements for wave breaking and coastal sediment transport.
