GYMNOPOULOS Miltiadis (mgymnopoulos@lnec.pt)

Miltiadis Gymnopoulos, earned the joint Civil Engineer Diploma from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.TH.), Greece, in 2011. His Diploma thesis referred to the possibility of failure of urban drainage network pipes, when they discharge at streams carrying surface runoff, under extreme precipitation events. In 2012, he received the postgraduate diploma in Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development from the Department of Civil Engineering of the A.U.TH., defending successfully his thesis on an economic pre-evaluation of the wind-pumped storage hybrid power station of Ikaria Island. He worked in HYDROMANAGEMENT Ltd. for a year, having been engaged with environmental projects in the technical consulting sector. In July 2014, he joined LNEC, under the project SEDITRANS, funded by the Marie Curie FP7-PEOPLE-2013-ITN program of the European Union. His PhD research focuses onthe experimental characterization of sediment transport and the corresponding bed topography, mean flow field and turbulence in strongly curved river bends.
