Dr. Christos Varsakelis was born in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1983. He obtained a Bachelor in Mathematics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 2006, an M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from ETH Zurich, Switzerland in 2008. Dr. Varsakelis pursued his doctoral research in the Universite catholique de Louvain, Belgium from where he received a PhD in Engineering in 2012. Since 2013, he is a Post-doctoral fellow in the Institute of Mechanics, Materials and Civil Engineering at the Universite catholique de Louvain.

Dr Varsakelis research interests lie in the fields of theoretical and computational fluid dynamics, with emphasis in multi-phase flows of particulate solids. His current research activities include algorithm development and numerical simulation for fluid-saturated granular flows, with applications to sediment transport.
