Introduction to granular flows and sediment transport
Winter School at UCL (Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium)
Date: 12-15 March 2014

Introductory lecture series on sediment transport in fluvial, estuarine and coastal environment:

  • An introduction to the governing equations for granular-fluid flows: R. Ferreira (IST)

  • Mixture theories for fluid-saturated granular materials: modelling and numerical aspects: C. Varsakelis (UCL)

  • An introduction to the modelling of flow, sediment transport and morphological changes in rivers: S. Soares-FrazĪ³o (UCL)

  • Density and turbidity currents: M. Franca (EPFL)

  • Turbulent flows in fluvial and coastal environment: D. Grigoriadis (UCY)

  • Coastal flow processes and fundamentals of sediment transport: A. Dimas (UPAT)

  • Introduction to experimental methods for sediment transport under fast transient flow conditions: B. Spinewine (Fugro)

  • Introduction to numerical simulations of large-scale flows of granular mixtures: D. Grigoriadis (UCY)
The event included 8 seminars presented by SEDITRANS scientists, and was attended by the first 5 recruited ESRs of SEDITRANS and 10 more researchers of the Catholic University of Louvain.
